Willegoos Children’s Books
Willegoos, in it’s literal translation from low-German means »wild goose«, zoologically it’s a gray goose. I had the honor to watch this particular goose hatching – since the very first beginnings of this publishing house in spring 2009, I am responsible for the corporate design and some of the book designs as well.
Naturally, the figurative mark derives from the name. But also the publisher’s program follows the track of the gray geese: These animals love to stay at the shores of the North Sea on their way South, and that’s where the stories take place.
Susanne Tiarks publishes look-and-see picture books from German islands as well as fairytales about the sea. The bilingual book »Die Zaubermühle« (the magic mill) has been awarded as »Plattdeutsches Buch des Jahres 2010« (low-German book of the year). Congratulations to Susanne Tiarks, Linde Knoch, Meike Teichmann and all translators! I’m proud to be part of the crowd.

The website: www.willegoos.de is a constant work in progress, as it has to be adjusted to the growing publishing house’s needs. On the first page you will see an animation of »Guntje, the gray goose«, who plays an essential role in Willegoos’ first look-and-see picture books. Guntje was created by Magdalene Hanke-Basfeld. The website was programmed by Vera Schlemm, Stagenet.
